In a journey punctuated with authentic problems, emphasizing that real life relationships are not a smooth ride but a cumulative of what matters and compromises with the ultimate goal being a good and satisfying life, Karen Cimms brings the perfect conclusion to her Of Love and Madness series in Better Man.
Billy and Kate's love story withstood not only the test of time but the ins and outs of this series. Tying up loose ends, reaching for purpose together and apart, both Kate and Billy embraced their commitment even as divergent paths and decisions offered challenges in this work. While these characters faced life changing choices and events Billy’s acceptance of them played a pivotal role in this story. Confronting seemingly selfish wants and opening up to unforeseen possibilities, as indicated by the title of this work, Billy's actions proved him to be the better man. Ms. Cimms did a wonderful job of keeping Billy in hero territory when sharing his preferences and reasonings, ones that could have very easily have been labeled self-absorbed as they were contrasted with the selfless hopes of Kate, giving his point of view validity as well. Billy and Kate were so complicated in their humanity, covered in scars this pair were beautiful in their imperfections and held up under the intense scrutiny of Ms. Cimms' character development. In the end this couple's long shared love proved to be a strength and bond that made the outcome of this story not a compromise but a natural and right progression of Billy and Kate’s relationship.
It is impossible not to feel invested in Ms. Cimms writing. This author's sensitivity combined with her recognition and inclusion of her character's flaws are traits that leave permanent imprints on her readers. A testament to the depth of Karen Cimm's writing is her ability to add new layers to her portrayals and give unexpected fresh glimpses into her characters foundations. Better Man left readers on a good note full of hope and the knowledge that beloved characters Billy and Kate's could handle whatever the future had in store for them.
*Other than the first book in this series the works in this series are not stand alone.*

Publication date: July 28th 2020
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance
Gunnar Bond is broken.
Three years ago, he lived through the car crash that took his wife and twins away from him—though “lived” barely describes his current state. Giving up professional hockey, going off grid, and drinking himself into oblivion are his coping mechanisms. Another is texting his dead wife about his days without her. Therapeutic? Doubtful. Crazy?
Definitely. But those messages into the ether are virtually the only thing stopping him from spiraling to even darker places.Until someone texts back . . .
Sadie Yates is losing it.
Suddenly guardian to a little sister she doesn’t know and a misbehaving hound she’d rather not know at all, she’s had to upend her (sort of) glamorous life in LA and move back to Chicago. The nanny has quit, the money’s running out, and her job is on the line. The last thing she needs is her sister’s hockey camp counselor, a judgmental Viking type, telling her she sucks at this parenting lark. Thank the goddess for her sweet, sensitive, and—fingers crossed—sexy text buddy who always knows the right thing to say. In the same city at last, they can finally see if their online chemistry is mirrored in real life. She just needs to set up a meeting …
A ruined man who claims to have used up all his love is surely a bad bet, but Sadie’s never been afraid of a challenge … even one that might shatter her heart into a million pieces.

EXCERPT:
She smoothed the skirt of her dress, a cute shift style she’d cut from an old Vogue pattern and paired with a fun, sparkly belt. Placing her hand on the door handle, she grabbed her Kate Spade, gift from her friend Peyton, only to stall at hearing her phone buzz.
“Hold your horses, woman,” she muttered, expecting to see an all-caps text from Allegra. Instead it was from someone rather unexpected.
LonelyHeart: It’s cold and miserable, like me. How about you?
More than twenty-four hours later, he’d texted back! About the weather, but she’d take it.
Sadie: Sunny with a chance of more sun. Like me!
She cringed at her ridiculousness. Sadie: Sorry, just being a goof. What’s going on? Forehead slap. He’s mourning his wife, that’s what.
LonelyHeart: I’ve been thinking about the 9 million numbers and how it is you have this one number. Of all the numbers. This one that means something to me.
She had no idea what to say to that. Maybe it’s fate? The goddess? Maybelline?
The dots started up again and she let him finish his thought.
LonelyHeart: Maybe it means we’re supposed to be talking.
Sadie: I think so. It has to be a sign.
LonelyHeart: So you don’t think it’s weird?
What? Talking to a man who wished he was chatting with the deceased love of his life. Nah!
Sadie: No, not at all. You don’t have to say anything, but I wanted you to know I’m here if you need to talk.
LonelyHeart: Not much of a talker.
Sadie smiled. This man—and she was sure it was a man—was much more of a “talker” than he claimed.
Sadie: Yet you can’t shut up in those texts J
LonelyHeart: Kind of chatty when there’s only four wooden walls.
Sadie: You have me now.
She sent it before she had time to think about how it would sound. Presumptuous. Needy. A bridge too far.
Allegra: SADIE, WHERE ARE YOU??!!!
Damn. She waited for LonelyHeart to respond, worried she’d scared him off. Her phone rang with Allegra’s high-energy smile on the screen (Allegra had energy degrees for her smiles. This one was an eight.) Sadie let it go to voice mail. It seemed incredibly important that she wait for his response. Just a second, just one more second …
LonelyHeart: I should let you go. I’ll check in later if that’s okay.
Sadie’s heart thundered. Definitely. I’m dying to hear about the wooden walls. Are you Amish? But a user of phones? An Amish tech-lover?
LonelyHeart: No. I live in a cabin. In a forest.
Sadie: Like the Unabomber? I’m not really into revolutionary anarchy but I can tell a million jokes about it.
LonelyHeart: Jokes would be welcome during the revolution.
Sadie: Awesome! I’ll get my arsenal of bad puns ready. (Arsenal? Revolution? Get it?) Prepare to be entertained.
LonelyHeart: Is that your way of discouraging me from checking in? Because I’m not easily frightened.
Sadie: Wait until you hear my A material.

Reign ushers in the final installment of Siobhan Davis' The Sainthood-Boys of Lowell High series for some seriously racy, suspenseful and sensational conclusions!
Lo was the kind of heroine who brought independence and equality to a whole other level. She stood on equal ground with the men in her life and took no prisoners. She was a standout lead that was gritty and raw. Her connections with each of her partners was full of depth, evolved and was as unique individually and as it was collectively. Ms. Davis did a fantastic job of handling the intricacies of this group's intermingled relationships giving them all substance and complete portrayals. All four male leads brought something important to this story and none of their inclusions were gratuitous.
Siobhan Davis drove this series at high speed to the very end. With her trademark angst and twists there was little let up and the pages flew. Tying up all her loose ends expertly this work was as well put together as it was entertaining. Adrenaline and steam took this series to a very exciting finale with Reign!

Beautiful and poignant Kate Meader's Man Down is a story of hope at the end of a very dark tunnel.
Haunted by his past and yearning for a future Gunnar Bond was broken but not irreparable. Kate Meader in her winding logic managed to find a way to join together a group of people with missing pieces making them whole again. Sadie was kind, witty and tried her hardest even at her lowest points. Gunnar and Sadie were fixers and despite their scars these two big-hearted characters reached beyond their sorrow to help others, which in itself was an admirable trait but was extremely likable as well. Out of their individual tragedies these two were able to bring each other out of their protective shells and their journey toward each other and happiness made for a wonderful romance. A great secondary cast rounded out this story.
Kate Meader's writing is sensitive and mindful without being overprotective of her portrayals. Bad things may happen but this author guides her work with kindness and humor for stories that are unmistakably her own and never superficial. With a nice twist on the frenemies trope Ms. Meader kept this story interesting and her readers invested. In Man Down Kate Meader adds another couple to her Rookie Rebel's roster that readers will find it impossible not to fall in love with!

Tory D’Angelo seemingly had it all and a bright future ahead of him. Abby Cortez was on the brink of stardom and beautiful, she had the world at her feet. Yet underneath their popular charming exteriors Tori and Abby struggled with wanting to be seen for who they really were and to be free of the family burdens they carried on their shoulders. What should have been a simple attraction took on the needs of others, causing Tori and Abby to put what they really wanted aside only to explode in an emotional mess of guilt, desire and soul searching. This couple flirted with friendship and longed for more, never taking their attraction seriously until they had no choice. Tori and Abby battled their instinctive impulsiveness even as they tentatively pushed toward the next stage of maturity. Broken families, broken hearts these characters were depicted with compassion and clarity.
In a genre full of excellent writers Ginger Scott stands out as she takes universal feelings and customizes. She has a real connection with her characters and an affinity for reaching within their experiences, bringing their true feelings to the surface of her stories. This author uses everyday angst even as she brings the struggles of a generation into focus with truth tempered in kindness. Ms. Scott recognizes that the age group she depicts often is floundering to understand and define themselves ready to branch out with unsure and shaky feelings. Truth and consequences, empathy and sacrifice all jumbled up in the insecurities of coming of age were well put together in Ginger Scott's Varsity Tiebreaker for a great story!

The fourth and final book in the Of Love and Madness Series will keep you on the edge of your seat. Are you ready?
Whoever said change is good should have their head examined.
As far as Billy McDonald is concerned, he’s changed enough for one lifetime. He’s been clean and sober for two years, he’s learned to manage his anger, and he’s uprooted his life and relocated to Maine to reunite with his wife, Katie.
He’s even helped Katie create a resource center for at-risk youth, where he teaches guitar to any kid who’s interested.
He’s paid his dues. He’s evolved. He’s a better man. It was hard work, but his personal life is the best it’s ever been, and his music career is finally on track.
Life should be easier now. Smooth sailing. No surprises, right?
Yeah, well. Not so fast.
Katie wants him to become a father—again.
As the saying goes, been there, done that. He sucked as a parent the first time around, and as far as he’s concerned, you don’t get a do-over.
Too bad she doesn’t see it that way.
After everything they’ve been through and all they’ve fought to overcome, could this be the one thing they can’t get past?
Better Man is the fourth and final book in the Of Love and Madness series.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Karen Cimms was born and raised in New Jersey and still thinks of the Garden State as home. She and her husband live in Northeast Pennsylvania. They have four children.

L. Wilder spotlights another of her Satan's Fury MC Memphis members in T-bone for an emotional ride that was as touching as it was edgy.
A resigned bachelor T-Bone never saw the attraction to a fellow member's much younger sister coming, it broke his fierce code of brotherhood to pursue his interest. Finding many reasons why he could not act on his attraction, his rationale fell short when the attraction was reciprocated. T-Bone was reliably kind yet by the same measure was able to step into his role as a man to be feared with ease. His ability to balance the different aspects of his personality from fun loving, loyal friend and gentle lover to his hard edge significant role in a MC was played off well by this writer making him a hero even when demonstrating his more questionable behavior. Alyssa was sweet and hard working, dealing with trauma from years earlier she still managed to be brave and push back against her demons. The years separating this couple fell away and the relationship and love that developed between them was as much of a surprise as it was genuine. This did not feel like an older younger age gap relationship as much as one where the couple complimented each other. Misunderstandings, secrets and challenges kept this pair's relationship lively and tension filled. The bonding that occurred between T-Bone and Alyssa was sweet in an often very dark world affording them each comfort in the personal bubble they had formed.
In T-Bone Ms. Wilder once again finds a way to bring the truths of her bikers’ alternative lifestyle in such a way to bridge any concerns that may exist in her audience's perceptions. She finds common ground making them human and vulnerable, two very appealing traits that contrast with the often brutal culture they take part in. With straightforward disclosure this author brings large doses of reality even as she brings hope and love with her down to earth writing style that makes her so approachable to her readers. T-Bone shows the power of love follows no clear path but to the right heart, a great read for old and new fans alike!

This Love Hurts

5 Stars
Starting with the prequel Do You Want Me? leading into This Love Hurts W. Winters' brings a slow build up of intrigue with strong undercurrents of anticipation and smoldering attraction. The nuances and clues in these works were subtle even as they were strategic. Not one interaction in this story did not carry a lot of meaning behind its obvious intent. Deliah was a strong woman who grappled with having achieved what she set out to do in life but knowing she was missing something despite her successes. The question was what and this story led her on a twisty path of self-discovery that shocked even herself. Cody was a mystery with his role ambiguous yet never lessening his appeal as a key player. The wild card in this mix was Marcus, who he was and how he played a part in this work existed in a blurred area that taunted readers for the entire story.
The initial slower pacing of this story by this author was misleading as readers fell into complacency regarding the plot and the fate of her characters. That being said this work was extremely well calculated and Ms. Winters excelled in bringing her portrayals to a place of relaxed intimacy with her readers before she upended their comfort zones and tested their boundaries right alongside her characters. Exposing dark corners most people avoid this author brought a fascinating story to her audience with glaring purpose. Ending on a cliffhanger this is a work that will keep readers guessing and eagerly awaiting the fate of this cast of characters in their next installment!
