Starting with the prequel Do You Want Me? leading into This Love Hurts W. Winters' brings a slow build up of intrigue with strong undercurrents of anticipation and smoldering attraction. The nuances and clues in these works were subtle even as they were strategic. Not one interaction in this story did not carry a lot of meaning behind its obvious intent. Deliah was a strong woman who grappled with having achieved what she set out to do in life but knowing she was missing something despite her successes. The question was what and this story led her on a twisty path of self-discovery that shocked even herself. Cody was a mystery with his role ambiguous yet never lessening his appeal as a key player. The wild card in this mix was Marcus, who he was and how he played a part in this work existed in a blurred area that taunted readers for the entire story.
The initial slower pacing of this story by this author was misleading as readers fell into complacency regarding the plot and the fate of her characters. That being said this work was extremely well calculated and Ms. Winters excelled in bringing her portrayals to a place of relaxed intimacy with her readers before she upended their comfort zones and tested their boundaries right alongside her characters. Exposing dark corners most people avoid this author brought a fascinating story to her audience with glaring purpose. Ending on a cliffhanger this is a work that will keep readers guessing and eagerly awaiting the fate of this cast of characters in their next installment!
