Hope, book four in Shauna McDonnell's 4Clover series, takes readers through the depths of despair and back for an emotional read.
Conor Maguire seemed to have it all but he lived a half life caught up in a past that held his heart. The struggle he had to embrace the joy in life was heartbreaking. Cassie Davis had a past that made it difficult to move forward even as she strived to do so. When these two lost souls met each other the connection was electric which both invigorated and terrified them. The processing of this pair's feelings from dealing with their attraction to the angst over their desire to move on was intense. Standing out with this couple was their kindness to each other and their recognition of the pain they each felt. This author did a wonderful job of not minimizing Conor and Cassie's feelings for their first loves even while showing that while the love they developed for each other was different than their first it was just as significant, there was no settling or second best. The conversations throughout this work were meaningful and moved this story forward adeptly.
Often when you come across a series later in it's progression the earlier books tend to take a back seat to the current work in the review process but in the case of Ms. McDonnell's 4Clover series the previous books merit mentioning. Each book was well put together and thoughtful, the perfect mix of humor and heartache. As the last book in the 4 Clover series, Hope, tied things up it did not take long for it to sink in what a great series this author put out. Each book took readers on an individual journey even as readers experienced the overall evolution of the band spanning across the series. It was clear from book one onward that Shauna McDonnell writes with her heart. Her stories are filled with genuine emotion that shows a depth that translates well to her audience. The easy flow of her writing makes her work approachable as well as absorbing. With an abundance of thoughtful interactions her works are anything but trivial and give readers a glimpse into the full potential awaiting them from Ms. McDonnell. A highly recommended Jenerated Review series, get ready for the 4Clover guys to rock your world!
*While this book can be read as a standalone for an overall enhanced reading experience reading the previous books in the series is recommended.*
