Romantic love between old friends can be hard to transition to but Scarlett Cole made it seem like the easiest thing in the world in Love in Secrets. Jake and Cassie knew the friendship they had as children had changed after not seeing each other for a number of years. The once easy going camaraderie of people who grew up together was now infused with an intense physical attraction that set them off on an unavoidable path to owning each other's hearts. What always stands out with this author is how she goes about addressing her characters' attraction. This story carried on Ms. Cole's tradition of thoughtful interactions displaying feelings in a mature and caring way yet at the same time keeping readers experiencing all the highs and lows of love with liberal doses of drama.
Jake and Cassie's relationship was full of moments of mutual understanding and respect as well as including all the fun of people who knew how to tease each other without misunderstandings. The ease of their connection was wonderful to watch. Jake's confidence was extremely appealing and well placed, making him the perfect partner for a woman like Cassie who made her career in a male dominated world. His lack of intimidation and insecurity where Cassie's ambitions laid, without diminishing his own strengths, was inspiring. There were lots of emotional moments in this work that moved it quickly.
Ms. Cole has such a deep devotion to her portrayals, there is never any wavering in her commitment to telling their stories and finding their HEA's no matter how difficult the road to finding them is. This author's sensitivity to her characters issues and her intuitive writing leads to some of the most interesting romances out there. Love in Secrets adds another reason why reading Scarlett Cole romances is a must!
