Nothing seemed to be going right for Julian Campbell, between his band breaking up in a public scandal and his niece being left at his doorstep by his conniving brother-in-law it seemed like an inevitable slide to rock bottom. Personal Assistant Hadley Crawford was the friend you wanted by your side and the employee you wanted to organize your life, unfortunately her family were blind to what an incredible person she was and made it their pastime to tear her down. With a prickly start Julian and Hadley found that their contentious relationship as neighbors was going to be put to the test as co-workers setting the scene for two people both on a collision course for personal melt downs to either kill each other or embrace each other as a comrade in arms.

Julian was a man who tried to be a decent and honorable person instead of taking the easy way out. This approach to life was not always apparent to others yet he kept true to who he was and doing the right thing. Hadley fought to stay the path she wanted versus what her family tried to manipulate her to do. This was a couple who initially balked at each other, but their shared trait of inherent goodness ultimately made it impossible for them to not recognize their attraction. With well written interactions, that gradually revealed who this pair really were and broke down their preconceived perceptions, an amazing relationship evolved that was emotional and filled with depth. This author's inclusion of Julian's troubled niece as a means to break down their misconceptions of each other and serving as a common denominator as they each tried to help her was exceptionally well done. Both Julian and Hadley's flaws made them interesting portrayals and instead of making them weaker made them stronger with their humanity.

Aly Stiles is an author that can make you feel what her characters feel but takes it a step further and makes you understand what they are going through at a very basic level making her writing not only emotional but powerful. Misunderstandings, miscommunications and mislabels rounded out this work for some very real moments offset by some great insight by this author into her characters. Don't expect easy paths for Aly Stiles portrayals but what you can expect is genuine experiences that reflect their emotions and an author who does them justice with incredible skill and caring. Crashing East, the perfect wreck to dive into!
